As the CEO of India's Public Broadcaster since 2017, Shashi is currently overseeing the transformation of the twin networks of Doordarshan comprising more than 20 television channels and of All India Radio encompassing more than 400 radio stations. Additionally Shashi also has responsibility for India's Parliamentary TV Channel - Rajya Sabha TV which covers the upper house of the Indian Parliament. A Technocrat, Shashi is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Bombay. After a long stint at the Indian Information Technology major Infosys Technologies, Shashi managed a digital news media startup Niti Digital before taking up his current role in Public Broadcasting. He also serves on the Boards of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) and the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) apart from the Indian Council for World Affairs and the Public Service Broadcasting Trust (PSBT). An author and a columnist, Shashi has published on politics, public policy and emerging areas of technology like Artificial Intelligence and Broadcast-Broadband Convergence. An innovator, Shashi also holds patents in the area of real time event management within wireless sensors networks.
As the CEO of Prasar Bharati, one of the world's largest Broadcasting Corporations, Shashi is overseeing the strategy and operations of India's public television platform Doordarshan and India's network of public radio stations of Akashvani (All India Radio).
Since taking over as the CEO of India's Public Broadcaster, Shashi has pioneered initiatives to rationalise the analog terrestrial television network of Doordarshan, modernise Doordarshan's operations for the digital era with high-definition (HD) broadcasting, internet streaming amongst others. Shashi is also overseeing the expansion of All India Radio's FM Network while accelerating its digital presence through new age platforms like Amazon Alexa amongst others.
Under his leadership, Digital Prasar Bharati encompasses 250+ active social media handles, 50+ active YouTube Channels, 20+ live streams, Million+ digital views daily, several Million downloads of the DD News and AIR News Mobile Apps even as Doordarshan reaches 30 million plus households through its Free to Air DTH Platform - DD FreeDish. His digital efforts also saw the launch of the first co-branded digital terrestrial tv channel targeting the education sector and public private partnership with start-ups to further the cause of digital terrestrial broadcasting.
Driving transformation at the Public Broadcaster he has initiated the most comprehensive review of its manpower across its networks which when completed is expected to establish the blueprint for the Public Broadcaster ofthe Future in India.
As a Member of the Board of India's Public Broadcaster, Shashi served on various committees providing strategic direction to Prasar Bharati.
Leveraging his rich experience in the Digital Media space, Shashi led a Board level initiative to create a Digital Media Platform for Prasar Bharati. He authored a vision document and a business plan for the creation of a new Digital Media Platform to be the Voice of India across the globe.
As the Chairman of the Audit Committee, he worked towards a transparent and accountable Prasar Bharati. During his Chairmanship Doordarshan and All India Radio had undertaken steps to digitalize Human Resource Operations through a MIS system to bring integrity, transparency and accountability to HR Operations.
As a Member of the Finance and Accounts Committee during 2016-2017,Shashi had been critical to bringing a sharp revenue targets focus to both Doordarshan and All India Radio with the initiation of a formal goal setting process for revenues for the years 2017-2018.
As a Member of the Technology Committee Shashi had advocated an accelerated push towards Digital Broadcasting with the aim of making India a Technology Innovation Hub.
As the Board Member on the Committee for Sports Rights during 2016-2017,Shashi motivated Doordarshan sales teams to succesfully bid for marketing rights of recently concluded cricketing events and ensure commendable performance in terms of both viewership and revenue.
Lastly as a Member of the HR Committee, Shashi had contributed to the initiation of a long pending exercise of manpower audit of both Doordarshan and AIR to rationalize operations.
During his tenure in the Board as a part time member, Prasar Bharati was able to initiate the long pending process of promotions to a large section of staff and Prasar Bharati was also able to conclude the slot sale process for prime time programming on Doordarshan through a transparent process of auctions.
As the CEO, Shashi was responsible for the News Media Platform NitiCentral.com - India's first Center Right Digital News Media Platform, the Data and Analytics Platform IndiaVotes.com - India's largest public database of electoral data and the Digital Campaign Platform India272.com which played a pivotal role for Mr. Narendra Modi's Mission 272+ during the 2014 Indian General Elections. Shashi also received the Dataquest Pathbreaker Award for Innovation 2014 on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital Campaign for the 2014 elections.
Spoke at several conferences on the innovations in digital campaigning between 2014 and 2015 from the Chief Customer Officer Forum to the BigData in Governance seminar. Also addressed the IAS Middle Level Career cohort in 2015 at the LBSNAA on use of Social Media in Policy Making.
Prior to becoming the CEO of Niti Digital, Shashi served as Chief Digital Officer between 2013 and 2014.
Worked for more than a decade as a Digital Strategist and Innovator for Infosys Limited in North America in various Leadership roles.
Was responsible for incubating many cutting edge technology based Digital Innovations and Initiatives at Infosys working globally with Fortune 500 clients across diverse Industries from Retail/CPG to Mobile, Digital Services and Energy/Utilities.
Between 2012 and 2013 as a Product Strategy Leader was responsible for developing the 5 year Business Strategy for the Product Business at Infosys focused on the Energy, Communications and Digital Information Services Industries with a specific focus on M&A strategy across the Portfolio and on Technology Strategy for emerging areas like Big Data.
Before taking on this new role led a team focused on Digital Innovations at the Edge of the Enterprise between 2008 and 2011. Led a specific charter on productizing Intellectual Property, Solution Design and Client Engagement for the Retail, CPG and Life Sciences Industries. Most notably conceived and incubated the Infosys Digital Innovation - ShoppingTrip360.
Was earlier responsible for leading several Technology Innovation and Incubation Initiatives in the areas of Mobility and RFID between late 1990s till about 2008. Most notably was part of the team that incubated OnMobile Inc during this period.
During the more than a decade and half tenure at Infosys, was the recipient of several Infosys Annual Awards of Excellence in the area of Innovation with patents in the field of software design for RFID and wireless sensors.
Demonstrating talent and potential right at the start of career at Infosys, was awarded Rookie of the Year in 1997 as the best performing new employee within the Telecom Software Business Unit.
