The Regional Language Satellite Service  (RLSS) of Doordarshan for  Odia Language was started on 2.10.1993 as DD-5 and later renamed as DD-6 from 15.08.1994. The DD-6 (Odia) Channel was  made a 24-hour channel on 01.04.2001(on the occasion of Utkal Divas, the Statehood Day  of Odisha State). Doordarshan  fulfilled  the demand of people of Odisha to get a Channel in their own language. With Round the Clock service, the art and  culture, literature, tourism,  song & dance and rich heritage of Odisha got a platform  in reaching millions of people within the State as well as beyond the State boundary . The Channel has a programme-mix of  News, Agriculture, health, literary works of eminent     writers of the State, folk music and dance, art and craft, tourism and festivals . Through its programmes meant for children, women, youth, farmers, senior citizens, rural people, tribals etc., DD-Odia  becomes a friend and guide to the people of Odisha. Krushi Darshan, a project on Agriculture Extension to Mass Media Support sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India and started since 2005 has become hugely popular among the farmer community. All the schemes of Central Government and Flagship programmes are regularly telecast. Special Anniversary & day-specific programmes are also part of DD-Odia’s  commitment to the viewers.  Apart from these programmes, DD-Odia telecasts LIVE all the major events of Car Festival of Lord Jagannath from Puri, Sital Sasthi (Sacred Marriage Ceremomy of Lord Shiva & Devi Parvati) from Sambalpur, Parbana Bela (Celebration of  Dussehra in Twin City of Cuttack & Bhubaneswar along with different parts of Odisha) every year. The Kendra also makes arrangement for LIVE telecast of   different Dance & Music Festivals organised annually in  Odisha like Konark  Festival, Mukteswar Dance Festival, Raja Rani Music Festival, Dhauli-Kalinga Mahotsava etc. in DD-Bharati . DD-Odia provides Satellite support to the programmes of DDK, Sambalpur and DDK, Bhawanipatna , the other two PGFs in the State  six  days a week of three hours to each Kendra .
