The Princely State of Travancore granted sanction for the establishment of a broadcasting station at Thiruvananthapuram, on 30th September 1937 and on 12th March 1943 Her Highness Maharani Sethu Parvathi Bai inaugurated the Travancore Radio.From this humble beginning All India Radio, Thiruvananthapuram, started serving the people of Kerala and now stand as the leading electronic media in the state.
Now it reaches every nook and corner of Kerala. Radio programmes covering a broad spectrum of interests in arts, culture, science, education and economic development are broadcast for a total duration of 97 hours in a week through News, Music, Rural Programme, Youth Programmes, Play, Feature, Literary Programmes, Women’s Programme etc. The great interest shown by listeners in radio programmes is evident from the response AIR, Thiruvananthapuram, is getting for its live interactive programmes and for televoting programmes.
All India Radio, Thiruvananthapuram, also possesses a precious and rare sound archive with recordings of eminent persons from different fields.
